'Weight Expectations' 2019
Performed at the Fringe Arts Bath Festival as part of the 'Disordered States' show, 'Weight expectations is a durational endurance piece that explores different aspects of living life with mental illness, with a large focus on the financial struggles faced by mentally ill and disabled people as well as the weight felt from the burden of depression. For almost half an hour the artist used her body as a support structure to communicate the instability felt with having to rely partly on the benefits syndrome as she invited people to place a black cube onto the surface above her until she could hold them no longer. As more cubes were added to the perspex sheet, the weight and instability increased, with the reality being that the boxes could come crashing down around her. The piece also doubled as a self performing interactive installation when the artist was not present.
